WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a combination of strength and flexibility training used by both men and women to improve posture, coordination, balance and overall well being. Often referred to as a form of mind-body exercise, Pilates is considered by many to be a blend of Eastern and Western fitness traditions. The method focuses a great deal on the accuracy of technique which demands a presence of mind and clarity of movement in order to build and maintain strength.

There are many different layers to the method, making it appropriate for all fitness levels and all ages. After an initial Pilates session, one can expect to feel taller, more agile, relaxed, and refreshed.

A Pilates workout comes in many different forms: from mat work, to reformer work, to use of the Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels. Sound intimidating? Be rest assured that the Pilates Studio is NOT a medieval torture chamber. As a matter of fact, it is quite the opposite - it is a place of discovery and personal growth.spine Mobility of the , stability of the shoulders and lower back, natural breath patterns and safe joint mobilization are just a few of the things a Pilates workout focuses on.

How do I get involved? There are many different ways to experience Pilates here at the club. Varying levels of mat classes are offered at the club every day except Sunday, and are an excellent way to get exposure to the work. We encourage all those new to Pilates to start with the Pilates Basics class, or with a private session in the Pilates studio.

The Pilates Studio featuring Stott equipment offers private instruction and small, equipment based classes for those who like a more intimate setting or need a little more attention from the instructor in order to get the most from their workouts. Working in the studio also provides individuals with the opportunity to use the equipment, which will ultimately help with the level of success that one can achieve in the mat clasS.
